Heineken has said that it will concentrate on growing its business in 17 markets, aiming to deliver mid-single-digit net revenue growth in the five years to 2030.

As part of its EverGreen 2030 plan, the brewer said that it will focus on targeted acquisitions and pursue divestments where appropriate.

The brewer shared these plans at a time when investors perceive the business as falling behind its peers.

Shares at AB InBev have risen 10% year to date and 15% at Carlsberg. Meanwhile, Heineken’s are up around 3%.

In its latest press update, Heineken shared that it had been suffering from the beer category’s “current sluggish recovery from Covid and inflationary impacts”.

However, according to CEO Dolf van den Brink: “We are fundamentally transforming our business to stay ahead in an increasingly volatile geopolitical and economic landscape.”

Looking at opportunities for growth, Heineken said that it would be focusing on Gen Z, urbanisation and a growing middle class in emerging markets, alongside maintaining its focus on existing markets.

At the same time, the brewer said it plans to drill down into premiumisation, mainstream, low & no and beyond-beer segments of the market.

Financially, the company said it is targeting an additional $400–$500 million in annual gross savings, on top of the $3+ billion savings achieved over the last five years.

It continued that it expects organic profit growth to outpace revenues, while earnings per share are expected to grow in line with or ahead of that.
