Hampshire-based producer Otium Wine Estate is preparing to release its first wines, following the planting of its vineyard in 2021.
Founded by Andrew and Emily Debnam, the estate is launching with a still rosé and a sparkling rosé.
The still rosé, named Delinquent, pays tribute to the resident peacocks that roam the vineyard in search of grapes.
Made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grown on sandstone soils, the wine is joined by Otium Brut Rosé, which uses the same grape blend and is produced using the traditional method, with secondary fermentation taking place in bottle.
According to the producers, the sparkling rosé offers flavours of ripe currants and strawberries, alongside notes of sourdough and almonds.
On the release of the wines, and their vineyard, the Debnams commented: “We set out to create a single-estate vineyard focussed on quality. Our wines are produced in limited quantities and offered as an invitation to slow down and enjoy something made with care.”
The pair added that their long-term ambition is to build an environment that can be enjoyed by future generations while producing wines that express beauty and tranquillity.
They said: “We live in a world of ever-increasing digitization, impersonal interactions, screens, with less and less need to talk to each other. Otium embodies the human need to stop and take a deserved rest, to celebrate the small things as well as the significant.”
