Hallgarten & Novum Wines has announced an exclusive UK distribution agreement with La Scolca, a fifth-generation family-owned winery from Gavi in Piedmont.

Under the terms of the new partnership, Hallgarten will become the exclusive UK distributor for La Scolca’s full range, supplying both the hospitality and retail sectors.

Founded in 1919, La Scolca is widely recognised as the first producer of Gavi, and was instrumental in building the denomination’s global reputation. The family trademarked the Gavi dei Gavi name in 1969 – a name which has come to stand as a hallmark of quality associated with leading expressions of the region’s Cortese grape.

Andrew Shaw, Coterie group wine director, said: “As we develop our portfolio for the future, we are looking to work closely with wineries that not only demonstrate outstanding quality but also bring unique stories and depth. La Scolca embodies this ethos, with a commitment to authenticity, innovation and exceptional winemaking that resonates across all channels in the UK market.”

La Scolca’s chief executive, Chiara Soldati (pictured), added: “Our integration into the Hallgarten portfolio is the result of a strategic alignment in quality standards, market positioning and long-term brand development objectives. This partnership enables us to leverage Hallgarten’s distribution expertise while reinforcing La Scolca’s commitment to precision viticulture, sustainable practices, and consistent oenological excellence.”

La Scolca exports to over 70 countries and features on the wine lists of some of the world’s top restaurants and hotels. Sustainability is a cornerstone of the estate’s operations, which combine traditional methods with modern techniques, including energy-efficient solar power and sur lie winemaking to enhance flavour and reduce sulphite levels.

The move marks another high-profile addition to Hallgarten’s portfolio following its acquisition by Coterie Holdings in 2023. The company includes a roster of route-to-market brands, including Lay & Wheeler, Global Wine Solutions and Coterie Vaults.
