In this year’s edition of its Eco Standard report, Hallgarten Wines has named Península Vinicultores its Champion of Champions.

A title that highlights the most effective producer across Hallgarten’s four pillars of sustainability, the award illustrates Península Vinicultores’ commitment to environmental stewardship, energy management, water and waste management and social responsibility.

In the report, Hallgarten explained that the Spanish winery and vineyard management company demonstrated a deep dedication to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

It said this is reflected in the way the producer does not impose a uniform style but rather seeks out unique terroirs and partners with local communities to revitalise ancient vineyards. This approach has led the company to rescue old vines and champion innovative viticultural practices.

Hallgarten added that the estates under Península Vinicultores achieved a perfect environment score, thanks to the minimal use of chemical herbicides, pesticides and insecticides, alongside the active encouragement of natural predators and biodiversity.

Turning to energy management, Hallgarten said that the company makes extensive use of renewable energy sources such as solar panels. It also employs gravity-fed winery designs, reducing the need for energy-intensive pumps, while integrating electric and biofuel vehicles into its operations.

In water and waste management, the wineries across the group implement a series of water conservation techniques, such as using regenerative practices to enhance soil water retention and utilising rainwater reservoirs for drip irrigation.

Finally, the group also achieved a high social responsibility score thanks to its requirement for sustainable credentials from partners across the supply chain, as well as its engagement in community and environmental initiatives.

Commenting on the group, Hallgarten said: “The outstanding performance of the wineries in the Península Vinicultores group positions it as an exemplary leader in sustainability, making the group the top performer in the Hallgarten Eco Standard 2026.”
