Specialist wine importer, Hallgarten & Novum Wines, has opened applications for its second educational trip to Greece, designed to advance Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in the wine industry.

The initiative follows the success of its inaugural trip in 2024. This year, Hallgarten will be offering two individuals from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to travel to Greece for an immersive experience with the aim of furthering the successful individual’s knowledge and career.

The fully funded trip will take place at the end of September, including flights to and from northern Greece. It will span educational visits to two wineries from Hallgarten’s Greek portfolio: Ktima Gerovassiliou and Akrathos.

“We are committed to building a more inclusive and equitable wine industry – it is part of the Hallgarten DNA,” Hallgarten MD, Andrew Bewes, said.

“This trip, led by our EDI committee, aims to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds in the hospitality and wine trades by providing the opportunity to travel, learn, connect and build industry connections, helping to break down barriers and create a more sustainable future.”

The trip seeks to build on Hallgarten’s track record of EDI within the wine sector, by providing opportunities for individuals who may not otherwise have access to specific wine-related courses and qualifications.

One of last year’s attendees Morgan Schille, Sommelier at 10 Cases in London, added: “It was a rare and rewarding chance to step away from the everyday and engage with exceptional wines – and with brilliant members of the wine trade – in a meaningful and thoughtful way.”

‘Diverse background’ is a broad term that can include disabilities, various ethnicities, neurodiversity, different gender identities and sexual orientations.
