Hallgarten & Novum Wines has announced the addition of two new Greek producers, both owned by Ktima Biblia Chora.
Led by development director Steve Daniel, Hallgarten’s Greek portfolio is being expanded with the addition of Ktima Dio Ipsi and Mikro Ktima Titos.
Situated in Ilia, in the north-western Peloponnese, Ktima Dio Ipsi has a 14.5ha vineyard and a 2ha olive grove set across two slopes at varying altitudes.
Founded in 1990 by Christos Kokkalis, the estate began as a small planting of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Since then, it has gained acclaim for its work with the variety, particularly thanks to its Trilogia wine, which is often described as one of Greece’s benchmark expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Now run by winemakers Vangelis Gerovassiliou and Vassilis Tsaktsarlis, the estate continues its ambition of producing wines with a distinct sense of terroir and place.
The second producer, Mikro Ktima Titos, is based among oak trees at the foot of the Paiko mountain range in Central Macedonia, near Goumenissa.
Established in 1972 by Titos Eftychidis, the estate was passed on to Vangelis Gerovassiliou following the founder’s death. It is now run by Gerovassiliou and Tsaktsarlis.
Under the pair’s leadership, the producer has become known for its dedication to indigenous varieties and is based in one of the four regions associated with the native Xinomavro grape.
On the incoming duo, Daniel said: “As a lifelong supporter of Greek wine, I am exceptionally proud to welcome Ktima Dio Ipsi and Mikro Ktima Titos to the Hallgarten portfolio.
“Our relationship with Vangelis and Vassilis spans many years, and their meticulous approach to winemaking continues to set the benchmark for quality in Greece. These two estates perfectly illustrate the extraordinary diversity of Greek terroir.”
At the same time, Tsaktsarlis and Gerovassiliou commented: “We are delighted to further develop our successful partnership with Hallgarten & Novum Wines through the introduction of wines from Ktima Dio Ipsi and Mikro Ktima Titos.
“These are two distinct, family-run wineries that express the character of their respective Greek regions, while sharing the winemaking signature of Ktima Biblia Chora.”
