Hallgarten & Novum Wines has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of Grande Champagne Cognac producer, Frapin.

Described as a ‘natural extension’ to Hallgarten’s wine offering, Frapin Cognac will be available to the retail, hospitality and travel retail sectors, beginning with a total of six products which will be available to the UK trade.

Jim Wilson, portfolio director at Hallgarten, said: “We are proud to be a wine specialist business, and in-keeping with this, excited to be extending our portfolio into the grape-based spirits world with what we see as one of the best examples of Cognac in the world, with bottles aged beyond the requisite amount of time.

“By extending our portfolio with the Frapin, we are able to cover all stages of the dining experience; from aperitif, to digestif.”

Frapin’s family estate encompasses 240ha of vines from Grande Champagne – the premier cru of the Cognac Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée.

Still in original family ownership, the family’s vine growing history dates back to 1270. In 1480, the Frapin and Rabelais families became linked following the marriage of Antoine Rabelais and Anne-Catherine Frapin, whose son was the famous 16th century writer, François Rabelais. In 1697, King Louis XIV awarded a coat of arms to his apothecary, Pierre Frapin.

Today, Frapin still uses established methods passed through the generations to produce Cognacs that are harvested, distilled and aged on the estate.

Rapidly approaching its centenary, Hallgarten & Novum Wines is a specialist wine distributor which was purchased by Coterie Holdings in 2023 and services the UK’s premium on and off-trade.
