Hallgarten & Novum Wines has added Tokaj producer Disznókő to its portfolio and will be its exclusive UK distributor.

Based in Tokaj in Hungary, Hallgarten said that the maker was highly regarded as a benchmark producer in the region, known for both dry and sweet wines.

The estate itself spans 104 hectares of single-block vineyards, situated on south-facing slopes of volcanic clay soil.

Management of the estate is overseen by MD Mészáros László, who champions sustainable viticulture.

Hallgarten said that the sweet Aszú wines will be available to both major retailers and the off-trade, while the dry Furmint wines will be available to on-trade customers.

A first for the distributor, the range represents Hallgarten’s only Hungarian producer and will include: Dry Furmint 2024, Late Harvest Furmint 2022, 1413 Szamorodni 2022, Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos and Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2017.

Steve Daniel, wine development director at Hallgarten, said: “Disznókő has a long and prestigious heritage stretching back to 1413.

“Since its acquisition by the AXA group in 1992, the investment and technical expertise have pushed quality forward for both the estate and the wider region.

“The estate continues to be a flagbearer for Tokaj, constantly innovating and improving, and I am excited for the wines to receive the exposure they deserve in the UK market. I am extremely proud to welcome this exceptional winery into our industry-leading portfolio.”
