Garcon Wines has officially launched its flat ‘letterbox-friendly’ wine bottle to UK consumers, following a partnership with online florist, Bloom & Wild.
Customers will be able to purchase wine – which is packaged in a bottle designed to go through the postal system – in Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc varieties, both from Chile. The service is available from today for pre-order sales via Bloom & Wild and the official launch date is April 30 2018.
Garcon Wines created the concept back in 2016 but this is the first time the bottle will be available as a wine product for consumers on a nationwide scale. The bottles are made from 100% recyclable PET (meaning no virgin plastic is created) and they confirm to the traditional Bordeaux wine bottle shape, according to the company. The bottles have also been designed to withstand the postal system, and the design means the packaging can fit securely through a standard sized letterbox.
Santiago Navarro, ceo and co-founder, said: “As a responsible company our aim has been to create the most environmentally-friendly wine bottles that would innovate and revolutionise the way consumers receive wine and businesses supply this wine. Offering one of the first bottles in the world to be made from 100% recycled PET material has enabled us to create the greenest wine bottles available, and as a result of them being 87% lighter and 40% spatially smaller than traditional wine bottles, hugely reducing carbon emissions from the wine supply chain.

The team at Garcon have worked closely with Master of Wine winemaker and bulk wine expert, Barry Dick MW. Garcon’s extensive Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio for their range of slimline wine bottle designs was granted in the UK in November 2016. In May 2017 the IP was extended to cover 35 countries internationally.
