An appeal has been made for industry funding to support the early stages of a drinks industry EDI initiative.

The joint initiative between the Wine & Spirit Trade Association, the Drinks Trust and the Wine & Spirit Education Trust aims to create “an accountable drinks industry that is equitable, diverse, inclusive and safe,” said WSTA chief executive Miles Beale.

The initiative was showcased at a seminar at the recent London Wine Fair at which the speakers (pictured, from left) were: Lorraine Copes, chief executive of Be Inclusive Hospitality; Sofia Gassne, head of HR at restaurant chain Hawksmoor; Gary Keller, wine and drinks expertise director at Molson Coors; and Queena Wong, founder of Curious Vines.

Wong said: “Things are changing and we need to make leaders look forward to the future and change things for the next generation. We all need to be authentic in our commitment to EDI.”

Beale added: “We will shortly appoint an expert advisory council to guide the programme board and support the right direction of travel for our shared initiative.

“Council members will be vital to offering support, expertise and urgency, as well as representing communities across the drinks industry.”
