In partnership with a range of sustainability organisations, Argentine winery Domaine Bousquet has launched a UK sustainability competition.
Created for wine professionals, the competition aims to drive tangible change at a grassroots level across both the retail and hospitality sectors.
The competition is made up of three stages: an initial online test, the implementation of a workplace-based sustainability project and a blind tasting of the 20 finalists.
Domaine Bousquet said the winner will receive a trip for two to the producer’s estate during the 2027 harvest, where they will experience an immersive programme including a winemaker dinner and a stay at Gaia Lodge, adjacent to the winery. All 20 finalists will also receive a certificate.
The producer said it wanted to create a competition that requires participants to implement meaningful change, whether through a restaurant wine list, a hotel beverage programme or as an independent wine retailer.
The judging panel will include representatives from Domaine Bousquet, the Sustainable Restaurant Association, the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation, Enotria, International Wineries for Climate Action, the Porto Protocol and Sustainable Wine Solutions.
Anne Bousquet, co–CEO of Domaine Bousquet, said: “Wine quality will always come first – that’s non-negotiable.
“But consumer-facing professionals are uniquely positioned to carry that quality story forward into something more: they are the ones guests trust to explain not just what’s in the glass, but where it came from and what it took to make it well.”
The competition opened for entries on 14 July, with the first stage running until 15 August.
