Following the sudden departure of CEO Debra Crew, Diageo has named Deirdre Mahlan as interim CFO.
She will take over from Nik Jhangiani, who has stepped up as temporary CEO, leaving the position of CFO vacant.
The position marks a return to Diageo for Mahlan, who originally left the company in 2020 for retirement. While at the firm, she held the position of CFO between 2010 and 2015.
More recently, she served as CEO and chairperson of the wine company The Duckhorn Portfolio ahead of its sale to Butterfly Equity.
Diageo commented: “Ms Mahlan brings extensive spirits industry and Diageo knowledge, as well as broad consumer goods experience in both executive and board positions.”
Jhangiani said he was “delighted” that Mahlan had agreed to return on an interim basis.
“I have full confidence that she will provide invaluable guidance to our teams and partner with me as we deliver on our Accelerate programme to drive long-term sustainable growth,” he said.
Mahlan will start the position on 18 August. She has 27 years’ experience at Diageo and its predecessor companies.
