The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in Spain has certified five new Guarda Superior Paraje Calificado Cavas.
With this decision, the D.O. Cava Guarda Superior Paraje Calificado category now has 15 products within it.
Three of the new additions come from Sumarroca, located in El Rebato: Núria Claverol Allier Finca Cols, Núria Claverol Homenatge Finca Peretes and Núria Claverol Blanc de Noirs Finca Rosendo.
L’Era del Celdoni by Carles Andreu also joins from Pira. Likewise, MIM Natura Blanc de Noirs by Vins El Cep, from the Can Prats estate in Espiells, has been certified. The Vallcirera estate of Art Laietà d’Alta Alella has also been expanded.
To join the category, the Cavas successfully met the regulatory requirements and were validated by a panel of sommeliers and masters of wine.
The president of D.O. Cava, Javier Pagés, said that he celebrates the continued growth of the sector’s highest qualitative category.
He added that other wineries have already begun the process to become Guarda Superior Paraje Calificado Cavas.
The experts participating in the final tasting panel were Pedro Ballesteros MW, Almudena Alberca MW, David Forer MW and journalist and sommelier Ramon Francàs. The current and former technical directors of D.O. Cava were also present.
