Crurated has announced a new digital platform for wine collectors, which is thought to be the first-ever blockchain-backed metaverse project.

The fine wine retailer, which recently announced its move into spirits, will be launching its metaverse project this spring in the form of a virtual wine cellar experience. With the aim of providing an immersive experience for wine collectors, platform users will be able to use VR headsets to visit their virtual cellar.

Alfonso de Gaetano [pictured], founder of Crurated, said: “We want to nurture the passion of collectors, support them in a way that hasn’t been done before…Our metaverse is the first step in giving collectors an immersive, engaging experience, an alternative to a list of wines on a spreadsheet.”

Features of Crurated’s metaverse include a ‘multi-player’ experience, which allows users to interact with sommeliers, and a virtual unboxing when new bottles are purchased. Every bottle purchased through Crurated is certified with an NFT, with the bottle’s journey recorded using blockchain technology.

The Crurated Metaverse was built using Unreal Engine 5, a 3D virtual production tool used by Epic Games, and owners are now continuing to develop the platform to add new features. Later in the year, the metaverse will also be available to Apple users via Vision Pro.
