Global Champagne shipments for 2025 declined by just under 2% compared to 2024.

According to the Champagne Bureau UK, shipments accounted for 266 million bottles, in contrast to 271.4 million the previous year.

The Bureau noted an unstable geopolitical environment as a reason for the drop, alongside shifts in social behaviour, inflation and stock adjustments.

At the same time, exports also declined to 152 million bottles compared to 153.2 million in 2024.

The French market remains the primary focus for Champagne, representing 114 million bottles in 2025.

On this, Maxime Toubart, co-president of the Comité Champagne, said: “The French market is a showcase for our appellation, and we must strengthen it. We have all the assets we need – excellent wines, unique expertise and collective strength – to consolidate this position and promote Champagne.”

David Chatillon, fellow co-president, added: “With a strong appellation and coordinated actions, we will continue to bring joy to all those around the world who have a passion for fine wines, dreams, celebrations and a zest for life.”
