Jon Pepper MW is joining Enotria as buying and retail director in February 2015.

Pepper is one of only 319 Masters of Wine in the world and has been managing director at Buckingham Schenk for four years.

Enotria chief executive Troy Christensen said: “His appointment will bring increased drive and vision to our operation. He is the ideal person to take up the mantle and consolidate the premium positioning of our portfolio, and the wider business.

“I have no doubt that with his experience and insight he is well placed to balance the complexities of trading in the UK, with a deep understanding of wine, from grape to glass.

“He has a strong track record of developing, launching and marketing premium brands, strong commercial skills and an excellent network of contacts across the UK wine trade.”

He added: “The objective is to add value and to continue to build an exciting portfolio that respects the historical foundations of the business, whilst driving a compelling future. We want to work with producers who are innovators and pioneers, helping them establish and grow their brands in the UK. Fundamentally Enotria wants to lead the conversation on wine and Jon will help us do that.”

Pepper worked in sales and marketing on a range brands including L’Oreal and Thomas Pink before moving to Buckingham Vintners in 2006 as marketing director.

He rebranded the company as Buckingham Schenk, then spent a year as commercial director before taking the top role.

In 2013 he scooped the Robert Mondavi Winery Award for best overall performance in the Master of Wine theory exams and the Errázuriz Award for best performance in the Business of Wine paper at the exams.

Pepper said: “Enotria has great wine credentials and a fantastic portfolio already, and I’m looking forward to building on this to ensure that the business develops its position as a true leader of the wine trade, remaining relevant and competitive while driving multichannel growth through a premium range that is the very best in the industry.”
