Scottish brewer Brewdog is closing the distillery side of its business after 10 years in operation.

Located in Ellon, Aberdeen, Brewdog Distilling Co produces spirit brands such as Lonewolf Gin, Duo Rum, Casa Rayos, Abstrakt Vodka and Ron Bodega. All of these will now cease production with the exception of Wonderland Cocktails, which will be produced by a third party.

In a statement, the brewer said: “After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to cease production of our distilling brands, with the exception of Wonderland cocktails.”

Despite stressing that the decision will help Brewdog to sharpen its focus on the brewing side of its operations, there has been concern from the local community over job losses, which have not yet been addressed.

Local MP Harriet Cross said: “Residents in and around Ellon rely on employment from Brewdog, and an important local business making cutbacks like this is very unsettling for the area.”

The news about Brewdog comes after a series of UK pub closures last year, including the flagship pub, also in Aberdeen.

Last year, the brewer also announced that it was selling the Scottish forest it acquired five years earlier, originally to help with its net-zero credentials.
