Les Grands Chais de France (GCF) has relaunched Blue Nun in the UK market. The company said the iconic German brand has rolled out with a “refreshed look, wider distribution and a renewed focus on making wine more approachable”.

Following GCF’s 2024 acquisition of Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben, Blue Nun returns to the UK market with an initial launch of Blue Nun Authentic White and Blue Nun Riesling, available through Ocado (Authentic White) and Drink Supermarket (Authentic White and Riesling), with further distribution planned.

According to GCF, Blue Nun, which was founded in 1921, has sold more than one billion bottles worldwide and is available in 64 countries, making it the “bestselling German wine brand of all time”.

Blue Nun’s updated branding retains the blue bottle while introducing a “cleaner, more contemporary identity” to appeal to modern wine drinkers.

GCF said the return comes as consumer demand continues to shift towards “approachable, fruit-forward wines, lower-alcohol styles and more relaxed drinking occasions”. Blue Nun Authentic White is 10% abv with moderate sweetness levels.

Blue Nun Authentic Riesling (9% abv) is made from grapes grown in Germany’s Rheinhessen region.

“Blue Nun is one of the great success stories in the wine industry because it introduced millions of people around the world to German wine,” said Henry Colyer, UK marketing manager at GCF.

“At GCF, we share the belief that wine should be welcoming, enjoyable and easy to discover. We’re proud to be bringing Blue Nun back to UK consumers and to introduce a new generation of drinkers to this iconic brand.”

Jital Rao, marketing manager at Drink Supermarket said early retail performance has been encouraging.

“Blue Nun is a brand that instantly resonates with UK consumers, so stocking the refreshed range was an easy decision for us. We’ve seen a fantastic response since launch, with strong early sales that reflect both the brand’s heritage and its renewed appeal.”
