Berry Bros & Rudd is pre-selling wines from two of its smaller producers, offering its customers the chance to buy early at a reduced cost.

The initiative, which uses is a format usually reserved for En Primeur, is designed to support smaller wine producers during the current challenging environment.

The retailer is therefore offering its customers the chance to pre-buy the new vintage from these producers – Eva Fricke and Bernhard Bredell of Scions’s of Sinai – at a significant saving.

Fricke’s wines are available to buy from Berry Bros’ website, while Scions of Sinai wines can be accessed via the retailer’s Fine Wine team.

The company said: “Eva Fricke has rapidly become a face of the “new” Germany. Identified as a rising star, Fricke champions organic farming and minimal intervention in the winery to translate the extraordinary soils and old vines of her Rheingau vineyards.

The wines include 2019 Riesling Trocken, Rheingau, Germany, which Berry Bros said can be drunk now or saved until 2028. Pre-orders cost £60 for six wines with £21.90 due on delivery. The total cost is £81.90 (£13.65 per bottle), which offers a 36% total saving of £49.62.

The Scions of Sinai label comes from the Bredell family, which has been growing vines in the Lower Helderberg for generations, although the label itself only dates back to 2016.

Wines include 2019 Scions of Sinai, Granietsteen Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch at £112.50 per case (a 30% asving); and 2019 Scions of Sinai, Swanesany Syrah, Stellenbosch, South Africa at £112.50 per case, again offering a 30% saving.
