Copestick Murray has appointed former Sainsbury’s and Accolade winemaker Barry Dick MW as its new head of winemaking.

Dick has held a number of high-profile roles across the world during a varied career in the drinks industry.

He spent almost six years at Sainsbury’s, running the retailer’s own brand offering, and he has recently worked in a consultancy capacity for Morrisons and Tesco.

His career has taken him all over Australia, California, Bordeaux and the Languedoc, and he has made wine for several big brands, including Hardys and McGuigan.

Robin Copestick, managing director at Copestick Murray, said: “Barry is a great addition to the Copestick Murray team and his appointment will add another dimension to our company.

“He is ideally placed to bring our supplier base closer to our customers and the end consumer. With his vast experience, knowledge and understanding of the UK wine industry, Barry will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure we add value throughout the entire supply chain.

“Barry will be a big asset to our i heart business and other new, exciting projects we have in the pipeline. We are striving for fantastic wine quality at all levels and Barry will play a major role in this vital area of our business.”
