Bancroft Wines is the latest in a raft of importers and distributors to take on a producer from Field, Morris & Verdin’s (FMVs) increasingly depleted portfolio.

Bancroft has added Dog Point Vineyard, which was established in 2002 in Marlborough, New Zealand and specialises in premium organic wine, specifically Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Dog Point Vineyard’s wines were previously distributed in the UK by FMV, the UK wholesale arm of fine wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd and this move casts further doubt on FMV’s future. A statement about the company is expected later this month.

Earlier this year Berry Bros said it was reviewing the FMV portfolio to determine its future, and since that time many from within its range have been picked up by others.

Berkmann Wine Cellars is now the distributor for Champagne Jacquesson and Thorman Hunt recently took on Le Soula.

Liberty Wines recently took on Rafael Palacios’ wines, and the Mullineux and Leeu Passant labels from South Africa, as well as Famille Perrin.

Bibendum has added Quinta de la Rosa, Neudorf Vineyards, Bodegas Mustiguillo, Giovanni Rosso and Domaine Jourdan.

For Bancroft the addition of Dog Point significantly strenthens its New Zealand portfolio, which also currently includes Domaine Thompson (Ceentral Otago) and Isabel Estate (Marlborough), and Bob Short for Kate by Ben Glover.

Jon Worsley, chief executive officer, Bancroft Wines, said: “We are thrilled with the addition of Dog Point Vineyard to our portfolio and confident in our ability to exclusively market their premium wine in the UK.

“Dog Point’s core values of being certified organic, family owned with a focus on producing quality wine were the perfect synergy to our existing portfolio of wines.”

General Manager of Dog Point Vineyard, Matt Sutherland said: “This opportunity for a new distribution partner in the UK comes at a fortuitous time. We have had a great association with Fields, Morris and Verdin for the last sixteen years and want to thank them for their time, effort, and support during our partnership.

“Moving forward, we are excited about the future possibilities of what our new partnership with Bancroft Wines brings and the potential for forging new relationships with UK trade.”
