A rival to Baileys, which is made using single malt Scotch whisky as a base in place of the Irish whiskey its competitor uses, is now Scotland’s best-selling cream liqueur.

Magnum, which is crafted and bottled by the BenRiach Distillery Company in Edinburgh, was recently crowned one of the top-selling products at Edinburgh Castle with more than 12,000 bottles sold to visitors between January and November 2019.

The cream liqueur, described as “Scotland’s answer to Baileys”, is also sold from independents and specialist retailers across the UK including Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Fenwicks, The Scotch Whisky Experience and Royal Mile Whiskies.

Magnum is made using Speyside single malt Scotch whiskey and cream and it is packaged in a stainless-steel flask, which is designed to be re-usable and recyclable. The flask also keeps the liqueur chilled at the optimum temperature, without the need for ice.

The brand’s director, Lee Schofield, said: “It is fantastic to see Magnum going from strength to strength and proving a big hit with visitors all over the world.

“We are really grateful to Historic Environment Scotland who have continued to support Magnum at Edinburgh Castle over the last three years and enabled us to introduce Magnum to a new international audience. Our weekly free tasting events at the castle have been a great way for people to get a taste for our brand for the first time.

Edinburgh-based Hemisphere Brands is the global brand agent for Magnum and it manages the brand from production planning through to the strategy for market entry, as well as executing the sales, marketing and distribution plans.

The brand comes in 5cl miniature size, 50cl, one-litlre and 1.75-litre bottles.
