Badet Clément plans to mark the inauguration of its new “ultra-high-tech” winery alongside its 20th anniversary celebrations in June.

Last year was a big year for Badet Clément. It purchased the old Monze cooperative as well as vineyards Domaine du Tresor and Domaine de la Metairie d’Alon in the Aude. The acquisitions formed part of its strategic plan to become a major player in the Languedoc-Roussillon.

The company is now looking forward to another big year ahead as it celebrates the inauguration of its new winery at Monze, alongside its 20th anniversary in the global wine industry.

Last year’s purchase of the cooperative in the small village of Monze led to a further investment by Badet to transform the site in order to house a 50,000hl and ultra-high-tech vinification site and ageing cellar, analysis laboratory, tasting room and a cellar door shop. The cost of purchase and transformation was E6.5 million.

The first grapes were vinified at the facility last autumn, and they focused on Badet Clement’s two flagship brands: Abbotts & Delaunay and Les Jamelles. To celebrate this landmark achievement, Badet plans to host several hundred guests including customers and wine writers from their key markets around the world, along with local partners and wine dignitaries from the Languedoc-Roussillon to celebrate the official inauguration of the new Monze winery and to coincide with its 20th anniversary.

President Laurent Delaunay commented: “We have travelled a long way, both physically and metaphorically speaking from our beginning as a Burgundian negotiant. We followed our deep rooted belief that the Languedoc-Roussillon was a region of great wine making potential and we are extremely proud of everything we have achieved here so far and there’s lots more we are planning to do over the next 20 years to continue to build and afform our positon as one of the leading producers in the area.”

The 20th anniversary celebrations will be themed around ‘guinguettes’, the popular drinking establishments located in the suburbs of Paris and other cities in France in the mid-19th century and often depicted in famous Impressionist paintings. The celebrations will also include a tour of the new winery and vineyards, a cocktail party and a tour of the region for the international guests.

The winery provides the company with a vast vinification capacity but also controlled wine making techniques with sorting tables, 50hl temperature controlled conical wooden vats and small 25hl stainless steel tanks.
