Austria’s Neusiedlersee DAC has announced plans to champion the region and its red grape variety, Zweigelt, in the UK market.
Torsten Aumüller, managing director of the Neusiedlersee DAC union said in-person activities would resume, including a series of lunches at Trivet, visits and presentations to “highlight the diversity of our region and increase attention, knowledge and profile of one of Austria’s most significant red grape varieties, Zweigelt”.
“Like its white Austrian counterpart, Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt is both versatile and diverse: it can make light-hearted, fruit-driven, juicy, fresh and deep-coloured reds perfect for summer chilling, as well as structured fuller-bodied barrique-aged wines,” he said.
The Neusiedlersee DAC region has a vineyard area of 6,239ha, of which 1,501ha are planted with Zweigelt.
