The Austrian Wine Marketing Board has expanded its wine atlas so that users can search for information related to elevation, incline, sunshine hours, temperature, precipitation, grape varieties and soil types.

First created in 2021 by The Austrian Wine Marketing Board, the guide marked the first digital wine atlas covering an entire wine-producing country.

Designed to give the public information on where their Austrian wine comes from, the guide includes all winegrowing regions in the country.

Since its launch, Austrian Wine has been adding features with greater depth, with the aim of giving a complete picture of viticulture.

Focus on chillable reds

At the same time as Austrian Wine announced its extended atlas, it also launched a public statement encouraging the consumption of red wines in the summer.

Part of a wider trend for chillable reds – which experienced a 1,020% surge in Google searches year-on-year to June 2026 – Austrian Wine said that many wines are served better cooler.

Pointing to Austrian red wines for their freshness and fruitiness, the marketing board said that varieties like Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent fare particularly well when chilled.

Moving away from indigenous grapes, the board said that Pinot Noir is also best when drunk on the cooler side.
