Anishka Jelicich has begun her new role as CEO of New Zealand Winegrowers, taking over from Phillip Gregan, who retired this year.

Following a career in wine spanning more than two decades, Jelicich previously worked for Chivas Brothers, Pernod Ricard and as a self-employed contractor.

For this new chapter, she leaves her role at Pernod Ricard, where she held the position of global director for responsible marketing and sales.

As part of the transition, the CEO has relocated from Paris to Auckland, where she is now based.

The clear choice for the role, according to New Zealand Winegrowers, the board said it was delighted to welcome Jelicich as CEO

Fabian Yukich, chair of New Zealand Winegrowers, said: “We are very pleased to have Anishka join us as CEO. She brings a deep understanding of the New Zealand wine industry, combined with extensive global experience and strong leadership capability.

“Her strategic perspective and ability to build alignment across stakeholders will be invaluable as we navigate both the opportunities and challenges ahead for our sector.”

The organisation added that Jelicich’s appointment comes at an important time for the New Zealand wine industry as it responds to a range of global and domestic pressures.

Reflecting on the future, Jelicich added: “Today, New Zealand wine is the country’s eighth largest export, generating approximately NZ$2.1 billion annually, with our distinctive, refreshing and sustainable wines enjoyed by consumers in more than 100 markets around the world.

“My first priority is therefore to listen, learn and spend time with people across the industry, understanding what matters most before we write the next chapter together.”
