A collection of spirit distilleries has come together to launch a campaign called ‘Actually Made In’.

More than 140 distilleries said they want to share a collective message of “transparency, community, and education” through the campaign.

The distilleries aim to shine a spotlight on the story of how drinks are made and by whom.

Distilleries that feel they embody “genuine craftsmanship” can apply online to gain Actually Made In status, which includes a personalised badge.

The campaign hopes to differentiate passionate distilleries from “brands claiming authenticity”.

In many ways, it mirrors SIBA’s Indie Beer campaign.

CHRISTMAS CAMPAIGN

Members behind the campaign have also launched a new Christmas social media push via Instagram, offering participants the chance to win one of 10 distillery and hotel experience packages.

Campaign leaders said the competition aims to showcase craftsmanship, inspire gifting and promote local tourism by partnering with nearby hotels and B&Bs.

Prize packages revealed so far include: a gin-making experience and overnight stay with The Spirit of Manchester Distillery; a gin-making experience and luxury stay with Hensol Castle Distillery; a whisky and chocolate tasting and overnight stay with Isle of Raasay Distillery and a guided tasting and stay with Shed One Distillery.

Distilleries participating in the Christmas competition include The Spirit of Manchester Distillery, Masons of Yorkshire, Isle of Raasay Distillery, Wharf Distillery, Stockport Gin, Nelson’s Distillery, Black Shuck Distillery, Hensol Castle Distillery, Shakespeare Distillery, Padstow Distillery, and Shed One Distillery.

Seb Heeley, Actually Made In co-founder said: “The Actually Made In campaign is about celebrating the incredible diversity and talent within the UK distilling sector. This Christmas, we want to raise spirits in every way and celebrate communities. We want consumers to experience the authenticity and passion behind every bottle.”

Chris Leeke, managing director at Hensol Castle Distillery added: “At Hensol Castle Distillery, we believe it’s vital for consumers to know the story behind their drinks – where they’re made, who makes them and the passion that goes into every bottle. The Actually Made In campaign is a powerful way to shine a spotlight on authenticity and celebrate the incredible craftmanship found across the UK.”
