Around 100 Unite members are in dispute at Diageo’s Cameronbridge distillery in Fife over job cuts set to hit the business.

Unite confirmed that today a strike action ballot has opened, following Diageo’s announcement of plans to cut hundreds of jobs across its operations in Scotland.

As part of these cuts, it has been estimated that over 70 roles are under review at the Cameronbridge location, over a quarter of the overall staff, which sits at around 200 people.

Unite said that Diageo failed to properly consult on the job cuts and has provided no explanation and minimal detail on the proposed redundancies.

It further commented that it had safety concerns related to the job cuts, with no proposed reduction in production at the distillery.

Happening at a time of extreme cost-cutting for Diageo, the company recently reported that it had plans to cut a significant portion of its workforce to save $1 billion in costs over three years.

Already, Diageo has reduced its workforce by over 6% during the 2026 fiscal year, letting go of nearly 2,000 employees.

Sharon Graham, unite general secretary, commented: “Diageo is treating its hard working and loyal workforce in an appalling manner. The company is extremely wealthy and there is simply no reason to slash jobs across its operations. If Diageo continue down this callous path, then they will be met with the full force of Unite.”

Meanwhile, Dougie Orchardson, unite industrial officer, said: “Diageo has failed to consult on the proposed cuts at Cameronbridge. The company is treating its workforce with contempt and that is unacceptable.”
