HWC opts for a late Easter closure

04 April, 2008

Halifax Wine Company was one of several merchants which opted for a late Easter break this year. "We choose to run our business as a family -run business, which provides many bonuses," the company told its customers. "However, one downside is getting enough holiday time without compromising our customer service. The week after the Easter weekend has always been one of our quieter trading weeks, and so this year we have decided to close for an extra three days.

"We've taken time to ask the thoughts of some of our regular customers, and the general opinion was that closing for the extra three days would not compromise the service we offer."

Talking terroir

When Bordeaux was in fashion, it seemed almost logical that we should fetishise winemakers. Here were people responsible for brilliant acts of blending, across large estates and multiple grape varieties, including superstars such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot. These days, fashion has moved on and pinot noir is ascendant. As a result, the star of the winemaker has fallen and we find ourselves following a new star in the sky: terroir.
