l A bottle of whisky salvaged from the SS Politician sold for £4,200 at an auction at Bonhams in Edinburgh. The bottle was part of a cargo of 28,000 cases of whisky lost when the ship ran aground off the Outer Hebrides in 1941, and later made famous by Sir Compton MacKenzie’s book Whisky Galore and the film of the same name.

Glenrothes is inviting consumers to become whisky makers for a week in a new competition. The contest will run from October until the end of January and will get consumers involved in all aspects of whisky making, from malt milling to cooperage, and the chance to make their own bottle of whisky, and win a trip to Edinburgh.
