Coke in SPL sponsorship

Coca-Cola GB has signed a deal to become an official partner of the Scottish Premier League in football from the start of the 2010/11 season.

The three-year deal was sealed by SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster and Alan Halliday, regional director Scotland for CCE.

Halliday said: “The SPL provides a fantastic platform for us to really connect with local communities and fans who are passionate about their clubs across the country.”

Doncaster added: “We look forward to developing this partnership over the next three years to promote the SPL up and down the country.”

Few things can bring communal pleasure so intimately as wine. Apart from a hot tub, perhaps. Sport can trigger mass jubilation, film gives us shared empathy, but wine has a nigh-unique ability to bestow conviviality among us through a shared bottle – which makes it especially galling that we spend so much time divided over it.
