Diageo creates personal video gift service for single malts

Diageo has launched a gift service that allows people to personalise a bottle of single malt Scotch whisky with their own video message, in a link with the Whisky Shop chain.

Gift buyers can use a smartphone to create a video when buying bottles of Talisker, Lagavulin or The Singleton whiskies.

The Message in a Bottle platform creates a 30-second film from photos and a message uploaded by users.

A gift label on the bottle will have a link allowing the recipient to access the message by scanning a QR code.

Benni Lickfett, head of digital innovation at Diageo, said: “People are looking to personalise gifting and find unique opportunities that enable them to connect with family and friends.

“We want to use technology to help create impactful celebrations and Message in a Bottle is a great new way to raise a dram to people’s best memories and experiences."

Message in a Bottle is being launched as a pilot with the Whisky Shop chain ahead of Father’s Day on June 21. There will be no extra charge to use the service.

It is available on: Talisker 10 Year Old, 18 Year Old, 57° North, Bodega 40, Bodega 41 and Port Ruighe; Lagavulin Distillers Edition, 8 Year Old and 16 Year Old; and The Singleton 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old.
