The Whisky Exchange records 159% uplift in gifting sales during lockdown

The Whisky Exchange has reported a 159% uplift in gifting purchases over the lockdown period.

The retailer said it recorded a surge in sales of products designed to be given as gifts, over April and May this year.

Options for personalisation have also been popular and the retailer said more than 50% of all purchases of bottles of Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne have included an engraved message on the bottle.

Sales of personalised Peat whisky from Elements of Islay tripled over the period, in comparison to the normal levels of sales.

Dawn Davies, Head Buyer at The Whisky Exchange, says: “Sending a bottle of something delicious is an easy solution when we want to send a gift to someone to show them we are thinking of them and to bring a smile to their face. Normally we would bring a bottle round to their house but, while that isn’t an option, gifting bottles allows us to do this in spirit and then enjoy ‘together’ on a virtual Friday night drink’ - something which is quickly becoming the new normal.”
