Tesco appoints ex-Majestic's James Reed as wine buying manager

James Reed has been appointed as buying manager for wine at Tesco.

Reed previously worked for Majestic Wine for more than seven years, where his most recent role was as a buyer, a role he has held since August 2015. Prior to that he was Majestic’s Fine Wine Inventory Manager and Fine Wine Centre Manager.

Reed started working for Majestic in 2012 as a trainee store manager, progressing to assistant manager of the Notting Hill Gate store and then assistant manager of the company’s Belgravia store, before moving into head office roles.

Reed’s career in wine retail began back in 2009 where he worked as a wine specialist for Waitrose for three years. He has a Level 3 WSET award in Wines and Spirits and he speaks Italian and Spanish.

At Tesco he will be part of the team run by Jason Godley, the category director for beers, wines and spirits. Godley, who previously held the role of category director for impulse and One Stop, replaced Rob Cooke in the retailer’s top BWS role in 2019.
