On-trade ordered to shut down immediately to tackle coronavirus crisis
All of the UK's cafes, pubs and restaurants have been ordered to close to tackle coronavirus.
The latest government announcement also said all of the UK’s nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, leisure centres and gyms must close as soon as they “reasonably can”.
Take-away food services can continue and the situation will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
The chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced the government will pay 80% of wages for employees who are not working, which is up to £2,500 a month.
At today's Downing Street press briefing, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said: “The more effectively we follow the advice we are given, the faster this country will stage both a medical and an economic recovery in full.”
