Bourbon wood used for latest Duvel barrel-aged beer

Belgian beer brand Duvel has launched the fourth in a series of barrel-aged beers.

Duvel Barrel Aged Batch No 4 has been matured for nine months in casks sourced from the bourbon producers Heaven Hill, Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, George Dickel and Jack Daniel’s.

The wood gives powerful notes of bourbon, vanilla and caramel to the beer, Duvel said.

Brewmaster Hedwig Neven said: “The Duvel brewers have not been sitting still in recent months, but our specialty beer has been doing just that.

“Lovers of beer, Duvel, and whiskey can once again enjoy Duvel Barrel Aged now that the barrels are opened after their long rest and the bottles have finally been filled.”

Just 80 cases have been allocated to the UK market and bottles will be sold through specialist beer shops.

The 11.4% abv beer comes in 75cl bottles and has an rrp of £42.50.
