‘We milk it’: Oxford Wine Co goes large on award publicity

One of the winners of this year’s Drinks Retailing Awards has been exploiting the benefits of the extra profile and publicity opportunities.

Emily Silva, head of marketing and retail at Oxford Wine Co, winner in the regional chain category in the competition said it had been “over the moon” about the win.

“We definitely milk it a bit,” Silva added. “We sent a press release out to all customers and a list of journalists, put it on our social media accounts, the front page of our website, staff email signatures – everything!

“One of our staff was even interviewed on local radio.

“Award wins are always a huge bonus for the business, not only in the confidence your customers have in you, but in terms of the publicity afterwards, as well as it being a nice boost to staff morale.”

Silva added: “There was some extremely stiff competition for the award, which made winning all the more flattering, as well as demonstrating how strong the independent sector is at the moment. 

“Entering the awards was really a no-brainer. There were several categories we felt were worthwhile entering, and the fact that they are free to enter is a bonus.”

The independent retailer categories of the 2020 awards are open for entries now, until August 16. Enter here.

Finalists in all of the independent categories will be visited in the autumn ahead of the judging day in December.
