Maverick adds new dimension to gin with perfume-inspired collection

A perfume-inspired collection is the latest innovation to hit the gin category, courtesy of Maverick Drinks.

That Boutique-y Gin Company, part of Maverick Drinks’ portfolio, has teamed up with sensory specialist Lizzie Ostrom of Odette Toilette, to craft a series of fragrant gins.

The collection – Olfactor-y – will launch exclusively with Harvey Nichols for one month from today (November 22), featuring distinctive and nostalgic aromas, ranging from fresh rain to a trip to the funfair.

Nick Bell, Harvey Nichols’ spirits buyer, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with That Boutique-y Gin Company to launch these incredibly exciting new gins into Harvey Nichols. That Boutique-y Gin Company is known to experiment and take some risks, which makes us perfect partners for this project. With gins developed to smell like fresh rain, funfairs, Icelandic forests, and even Egyptian mummies, we believe that this is their most exciting range to date and we can’t wait for our customers to try them”

Fresh Rain Gin has an earthy scent, which is designed to transport people “back to the haze of summer with every sniff”. The botanical make-up includes beetroot and edible clay.

Dead King Gin features botanicals commonly associated with the Egyptian embalming process, including rosemary, honey, moss and myrrh.

Big Dipper Gin, which was inspired by a trip to a funfair, combines sweet cocoa, earthy cardamom and smoky botanicals to capture the nostalgic smell of “hotdog stands, candy floss and the best oily roller coasters”.

Beware of the Woods including woody botanicals such as Icelandic moss, nutmeg and cubeb to capture the elements of the forest.

Ben Ellefsen, managing director of Atom Brands, owner of That Boutique-y Gin Company, said: “The inspiration from this range came when I was listening to an interview with Lizzie on Radio 4 one morning. We started talking and quickly realised that we shared a passion for gin, and the evocative nature of scent. The ideas tumbled out of the initial meeting and it became a real labour of love to develop recipes which not only taste delicious but evoke a powerfully evocative olfactory response.

“Working with Lizzie on this project has been a dream, and we can’t wait for the follow-ups!”.
