Champagne House chosen to create The Prince of Wales' 70th birthday bottle

Grower Champagne house Lelarge-Pugeot has been selected to supply a bespoke Champagne to celebrate HRH The Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday on November 14.

The Champagne, which will sit under the Highgrove Brut Vintage Champagne 2013 label, will be available exclusively through Fortnum & Mason and Highgrove.

The Premier Cru Champagne, supplied through Hallgarten & Novum Wines, is made from 100% organic Pinot Meunier grapes. The Champagne is described as being rich and nutty, delivering “extraordinary” fresh line notes and a pure flavour.

Fortum’s wine buyer, Jamie Waugh, said: “After a rigorous selection process we are delighted to have chosen Champagne Lelarge-Pugeot as the producer to mark such a significant event in the royal calendar. It is the clear and unanimous winner from a blind tasting of 12 vintage grower Champagnes.”

The Lelarge family has been making wine since 1789 and Champagne since 1930 and the estate is headed up by seventh generation Dominique Lelarge, along with his wife Dominique Pugeot and their children, Clemence and Valentin.
