Aperol drives Gruppo Campari sales growth in UK

Soaring sales of the Aperol and Campari aperitif brands helped sales for Italy’s Gruppo Campari increase by 18.2% in the first nine months of 2018, according to its latest financial results released today.

The UK’s thirst for an Aperol spritzes saw sales of the brand increase by 51.2% on the same period in 2017, the company said, with Campari up 24%.

Bulldog gin was ahead by 16.8% and Campari's Jamaican rum portfolio, which includes Wray & Nephew and Appleton Estate, increased by 8.1%.

Globally, Campari reported sales growth of 6.6% to just over €1.2 billion.

Chief executive Bob Kunze-Concewitz said: “In the first nine months of 2018 we achieved a very positive net sales organic growth, accelerating in the third quarter, driven by the continued outperformance of the key high margin global and regional priorities in the core developed markets.

“The favourable sales mix continued to drive the growth of profitability and margin expansion, and helped compensate the expected adverse forex effect as well as the impact from the divestments of non-core businesses.

“Looking at the remainder of the year, our outlook remains broadly unchanged and balanced in terms of risks and opportunities.

“We remain confident in achieving a positive performance across key underlying business indicators in the year.”
