Mangrove UK celebrates ‘record-breaking’ month
Premium spirits importer and distributor, Mangrove UK, has delivered its highest volume of cases of spirits and liqueurs in a single month in the company’s history.
A total of 22,000 nine-litre cases were delivered throughout October 2018 to Mangrove UK’s on and off-trade customers across the UK, representing a 108% increase on the same month last year.
The company has attributed its record October success on a number of factors, including activity in the trade around Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) with Halloween providing a seasonal boost around tequila, mezcal and its Mexican Chile liqueurs, as well as Mozart Pumpkin.
Mangrove said sales of its core products, such as Black Cow Vodka, continued to increase as it secured new distribution outlets, while recent additions to its UK portfolio – such as Amaro Montenegro and Select Aperitivo – helped drive sales.
In addition, it said newcomers to its Scotch Whisky portfolio - including Ben Riach, Glengassaugh and Glendronnach - also boosted volume sales for the company.
And in rum, Mangrove said there has been strong demand for Aluna coconut rum and Don Q.
Managing director, Nick Gillett, said: “Our product portfolio is well positioned, offering real quality and points of difference to both the on and off trade. The hard work of the sales team and the ongoing success of the independent operator as well as good national operators gives us a good platform on which to build.
“This record-breaking month is testament to Mangrove UK’s commitment to providing strong results for our drinks brands and partners and we plan to continue this growth in future months. That said, margins remain under pressure from the general weakness of Sterling, the cost of borrowing and other cost increases that have to date been absorbed by us.
“The continued trend towards premiumisation means our portfolio is well placed to benefit, and we are always looking to make the right brand additions to ensure we remain relevant.”
