Wester Distillery puts Glasgow on the rum map
Glasgow is set to get its first rum distillery in more than 300 years.
Rum fans Zander Macgregor and Allan Nairn founded Wester Spirit Co, and next month they will open their distillery – Wester Spirit Distillery – which they believe will rekindle rum distillation in Glasgow.
The company will initially launch one product: Wester Spiced Rum (rsp: £35).
Wester Rum takes its name from the Wester Sugar House Company, which was established in Glasgow’s Candleriggs in 1667. For more than a century it built a reputation for refining sugar and distilling rum.
The rum is craft distilled in Scotland using copper pot stills and it is then infused with spices, citrus zests and vanilla to create a more complex taste.
The new distillery will allow provide the opportunity for the brand to meet growing demand for spiced rum by increasing the production limit from 250 bottles per month to 6000.
Wester Spirit Co. is inspired by Glasgow’s heritage, reputation and strong connection in distilling rum from a real voice, while carrying on the city’s legacy and tradition.
