When We Are Giants to distribute Knappogue Castle Single Malt Irish Whiskey
When We Are Giants has expanded its spirits portfolio with the addition of Knappogue Castle Single Malt Irish Whiskey.
The drinks distributor, which was founded in 2009 and is part of the Drinksology Group, is now ready to roll out the Irish whiskey to independent and national wholesalers and online retailers in the UK and Ireland.
The three expressions in the Knappogue Castle portfolio include Knappogue Castle 12 Year Old, which is matured in bourbon casks; Knappogue Castle Twin Wood 14 Year Old, which is matured in bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks and Knappogue Castle Twin Wood 16 Year Old, which is finished in Oloroso Casks. The latter two are both special editions.
The whiskey brand is famous worldwide because of the Knappogue Castle 1951 expression, which is considered to be the oldest and rarest Irish whiskey in the world, according to the distributor.
Steven Pattison, co-founder of Drinksology, said: "Knappogue Castle fits really well into our portfolio of agency and owned brand, sharing the same qualities of craftsmenship and provenance that are so important to us and to our customers. We are really looking foward to seeing how well they will be received in the trade."
In 1966, Mark Edwin Andrews from Texas purchased Knappogue Castle, a 15th century castle in County Clare in Ireland that was then in ruins. He and his wife, a prominant architect, set about restoring the castle, while at the same time Andrews began buying casks of fine pot still whiskey from the top distilleries in Ireland. The casks were further aged and bottled under the Knappogue Castle label.
