Casa Agave creates UK platform for Mexican craft spirit producers

09 July, 2018

An importer and distributor has set itself up in the UK with the aim of giving a platform to some of Mexico’s smaller producers of Tequila, Mezcal and “all things agave”.

Casa Agave already has import agreements set up with artisanal Mezcal brands such as La Medida, Animas, Koch and El Mero Mero, and it said it will continue to add to its range of producers in order to offer “a unique selection of agave spirits in the UK”.

The company has been set up by Jen Foley and James Aspell, the duo behind the Nottingham Tequila & Mezcal bar, 400 Rabbits.

Foley said: “Because it can often be produced in less developed areas, we believe that the development of Mezcal internationally should have a positive impact for the people who produce it and their communities. For this reason, we personally select each Mezcal, trying to make sure that the brands we import are actively engaged in improving communities and the lives of the people who live there. We also try to ensure all the Mezcals we import originate from small family run Pelenque’s, giving them our support in their fabulous businesses.”

All of the brands are available through the company’s retail website, for consumers and trade.
