Portobello Road Gin reveals a new addition to its core range

Portobello Road Gin has expanded its core range with the launch of a Navy Strength variant made with English sea salt.

The newcomer, which is available now, is described as a “mightier and more flavourful” variation of its original London Dry Gin. The 57.1% abv gin is distilled with English-grown wheat and the producer’s signature recipe of nine botanicals. English sea salt is added at the end of the distillation process.

Portobello Road Gin Navy Strength is the second gin in its core range, following the success of 171 London Dry Gin, which launched in 2011. The producer has also launched a number of limited edition blends, including an asparagus gin and Local Heroes, a collaboration gin with three-Michelin star chef and owner of The Ledbury, Brett Graham.

Co-founder and director, Jake Burger, said: “We are delighted to expand our core product range with the launch of Portobello Road Navy Strength.

“Our signature 171 London Dry Gin has gone from strength to strength over the past six years with the launch of The Distillery, growth in exports within the US and European territories and most recently being named ‘Bartenders Favourite Gin’.  The heritage of gin is woven into the fabric of Portobello Road Gin and our visitor experience, The Ginstitute and likewise the relationship between gin and the Royal Navy is an integral part of the spirit’s history.

“Myself and my fellow founders of Portobello Road Gin come from a bar background and still operate several bars across the UK. As such, Portobello Road Gin Navy Strength is designed well with the current trend towards salinity in mixed drinks. Due to the concentration of flavour it is also going to be very at home contemporary drinks where it may have compete with other strong flavours.

“It is intense, ginny, punchy, characterful, mixable and has a distinct maritime edge to it. A gin for gin lovers, and if you like Portobello you’ll really like Portobello Navy Strength.

“We are also pleased to announce that we are teaming up with selected bars across the UK to raise money for ocean welfare charities through the sale of Portobello Road Gin Navy Strength signature. So there really is no excuse to not enjoy a nip of our naval libation”.

The newcomer is available in 50cl bottles priced at £26.
