Think Gin Awards 2018 celebrate the category's dynamism

01 May, 2018

The UK’s finest gin retailers, bar operators, wholesalers and communicators were honoured for their hard work in making it the UK’s most exciting drinks category at our fourth annual Think Gin event this week.

Waitrose, Majestic and Gerry’s were among the big winners as we dedicated an entire day to thinking about gin, debating how to safeguard its future and, most importantly, drinking it.

Gin has emerged as the absolute star performer in the UK drinks trade, leaving dynamic categories like Prosecco, craft lager and fruit cider in its shade.

Value sales grew by 32% in the off-trade and 23% in the on-trade in 2017 (Nielsen and CGA) and the average price continues to spiral.

Research shows that gin is increasingly the drink of choice for the ABC1 demographic and consumers are becoming more educated and curious than ever before.

It is therefore vital to work hard at impressing these educated consumers, and we explored this topic, and many more, over the course of the day, via a range of panel discussions and masterclasses.

The winners of our Think Gin Awards are at the forefront of the effort to drive education and maintain gin’s status as the most dynamic drinks category in the UK.

They are as follows:

Specialist Gin Retailer (Independent): Gerry’s of Soho

Specialist Gin Retailer (Multiple Sites): Majestic

Best Gin Bar (Independent): The Oliver Conquest

Best gin Bar (Multiple Sites): Hogarths

Best Gin Wholesaler: Enotria & Coe

Gin Communicator: Olivier Ward

Supermarket Gin Retailer: Waitrose
