Winchester Distillery releases Spring Meadow Gin

20 April, 2018

Winchester Distillery has revealed its latest limited edition seasonal release gin.

Spring Meadow Gin, which is made with fresh hand-picked cherry blossom and Mrs B’s Borage Honey, is described as a “bright and floral gin that works well in cocktails or with tonic, to toast the arrival of longer sunnier days.” The gin also includes other locally-sourced botanicals such as elderflower, lavender and coriander seed.

Head distiller and company founder, Paul Bowler, said: “We were delighted to be given permission to pick the cherry blossom at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens again. Assistant distiller Dom and I hand-picked the blossom last week and then, after removing the stalks, macerated the petals overnight in a low abv spirit to release the wonderful flavours and aromas.

“This year we are also distilling our Spring Meadow Gin using Mrs B’s Borage Honey, which will enrich the mouthfeel and floral notes of the gin. Mrs B’s is a local family business of beekeepers with 200 hives across Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex and they only harvest honey that is surplus to the bees’ requirements.”

Spring Meadow Gin (rrp: £36.95), is available to trade customers in 70cl bottles.

Winchester Distillery’s next seasonal small batch gin, Summer Garden, is planned for launch in June and it will be created using unusual varietals of strawberries and blueberries sourced from a New Forest grower.
