Gallo launches raft of premium brands into UK

E&J Gallo is launching a raft of premium wines into the UK market as part of its strategy to highlight the diversity of Californian wines, while also extending its reach further into high-end wine shops and bars.

The company is bringing over more than 12 different brands this year from a number of its smaller wine producers, with wines that will be priced around £10 to £15 and above.

Speaking to DRN, Paul Sorrentino, VP and general manager, EMEA, said: “We needed to establish ourselves as a credible producer and supplier of premium wines in the US before we introduced these wines around the world, and now the time is right to do this.

“Our range of wines means that we now have enough to satisfy those needs for the independent wine shop that wants something different from its competition.  Our portfolio has never been better. If a wine shop wants a cool story about a very small production or good wines with very cool labels, then we can meet these needs.

Scott Kozel, vice president of premium winemaking, said: “The depth and breadth of our range across different vineyards is much greater than it was in the past.

“It is unique that we have such diversity in California. We want to change the conversation so that people don’t just talk about Californian wines they can start to understand the differences in wines from Napa Valley or Sonoma, or Russian River Valley, and that is where our portfolio can really tell this story.”

The wines being introduced include wines from Orin Swift Cellars, J Vineyards & Winery, Louis M Martini, Mount Peak Winery, William Hill in Napa, Ghost Pines, Frei Brothers in the Dry Creek Valley, Talbott Vineyards, MacMurray Estate Vineyards, Bridlewood Estate Winery, Columbia Winery and Edna Valley Vineyard on California’s Central Coast.
