Poetic License Distillery launches Espresso Gin

23 January, 2018

Poetic License Distillery has launched its latest gin ‘Rarity’, which is infused with coffee.

The distiller worked in collaboration with North-East business, Tynemouth Coffee Company, using their Espresso blend coffee. The blend uses Arabica beans picked from 2000 ft above sea level; these were then coarsely ground, placed in the pot and distilled along with other botanicals to make the coffee-flavoured gin.

The independent small batch distillery has a range of unusual gins including Picnic Gin, which has flavours of strawberries and cream, and Fireside Gin, which is a limited edition mulled winter fruit gin, “to be enjoyed while cosying up around the glowing amber warmth of the fireplace”.

The limited edition Espresso Gin (rsp: £34.99), which comes in a 70cl bottle, has aromas of freshly ground coffee, followed by sweet citrus and piney juniper. On tasting the producer said the sweetness comes first followed by a “big hit of coffee”, described as “light, fresh and slightly fruity coffee cherry”, followed by “deep and earthy roasted coffee beans, with notes of hazelnut and a touch of vanilla”.  This is followed by more typical gin flavours.
