Majestic Wine appoints managing director for retail arm

09 January, 2018

Majestic Wine has appointed Joshua Lincoln as retail and managing director of Majestic Retail; it has also announced its Group sales increased by 3.2% for the 10-week Christmas trading period, compared to the same period the year before.

Lincoln has been customer director at Majestic Retail since 2016 and prior to this he oversaw sales and service in Naked Wines in the UK, USA and Australia.

Rowan Gormley, chief executive, said: “I am very pleased to announce that Joshua Lincoln has been appointed Retail & Managing Director. Josh’s promotion is richly deserved having transformed our store network into an entrepreneurial retail proposition during his time as customer director.”

Meanwhile, Majestic has also revealed results for the 10 weeks to 1 January, and it said it delivers around 30% of its annual sales over this Christmas trading period.

While overall Group sales grew 3.2%, Majestic Retail saw sales up by 1.2% (versus a strong 6.2% last year), while Naked Wines posted growth of 13%; within this Naked Wines UK grew 7.4% with even stronger growth from Naked Wines’ USA and Australia divisions.

Gormley added: “The team performed brilliantly. The fact that we have been able to grow sales and maintain margins shows that our winning formula of fabulous customer service from delightful people and delicious wines at fair prices works even when times are tough.

“We are on track to achieve our £500m sales goal by 2019, on track to deliver market expectations for the current financial year, and on track to accelerate investment in new customers, new winemakers and more fantastic wines.”
